Last year proved to be a highly successful year full of excellent exam results and fabulous performances. We had three sessions of examinations two Royal Academy of Ballet, 1 Imperial Society of Dance Modern and ISTD Medals. Also this year we introduced RAD Performance Awards with all students achieving the highest results possible, Distinction.
Some of our students had the opportunity to perform in Wexford Pantomime Society’s production of “Snow White and the Babes in the Wood” with our own Emily Brazzill and Holly Rossiter taking lead roles. Others were fortunate enough to share the stage with the Oyster Lane Theatre Group in their production of “Hairspray”, where Aisling Jones played Amber, Emily Brazzill played Penny and our own singing teacher Yvette Walsh played the lead “Tracy Turnblad. A number of our students took part in the St. Peters and Loreto production of “Les Miserables”, notably Aisling Jones as Fantine and Holly Rossiter as Cosette.
We opened the holiday season with our 50th Anniversary production “Reprise” to delight audiences, while looking back over 50 years of performance and welcoming back many ex-students, even some of the Mums themselves, who performed with their daughters who are now students.
The school took part in the St. Patricks Day Parade again winning our 9th award. Students performed as part of the Three Sister bid for European Capital of Culture.
Our “Sleeping Beauty ballet staged in the National Opera House was a resounding success featuring students from 3 to 18 years of age. Our five beautiful fairies, the Lilac and Princess Aurora performed as part of the Maritime Festival and some of our students had the opportunity to perform at the Waves Festival in aid of the RNLI, in Loftus Hall with such well known acts, as Nathan Carter, Hometown and Corner Boy.
We would like to congratulation Megan Power on securing a place in Arts Ed College London, Aisling Jones on securing her place in Performance Academy, Guildford and Sorcha Finn on her successful audition into the Irish National Youth Ballet. We also wish to congratulate Suzanne on her award for Best Choreographer for “Hairspray” from the Association of Irish Musicals (AIMS).
WSBPA were honoured with with a Civic Reception from Wexford Borough Council to celebrate 50 years of dance in Wexford.
In August we had our annual Summer School with the amazing Paul Doyle, an ex-student of the school and now an RAD Examiner, with a performance in the Dun Mhuire Theatre to wrap it up. This was a great week of learning and fun!
